The Cost Accountant position manages costs, creates accurate and sustainable budgets, and improves operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Bills of Material, Item Master, related costing for part database including Calculation of Labor and Overhead Rates.
  • Update Standard Cost annually and as needed when cost factors change.
  • Analyze G/L to perpetual inventory at month and year-end close.
  • Analyze, correct and value physical inventory.
  • Evaluate, approve/disapprove inventory requisitions for need, profitability, variation from standard.
  • Make recommendations for list price change, product phase-out when margins or MOQ are unworkable.
  • Analyze WIP and work order variances both weekly and monthly.
  • Analyze purchase price variance weekly, monthly.
  • Analyze inventory obsolescence for reserve calculation.
  • Monitor and evaluate inventory cycle counts and discards.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Analyze daily inventory transactions for accuracy and incorrect costs and evaluate Work Order Variances and provide feedback loop to production.
  • Perform cost savings analysis for proposed process improvements.
  • Perform make vs buy analysis.
  • Proactive analysis of variances and communication of issues and opportunities.
  • Plan, manage and execute the annual physical inventory process.
  • Annual government survey reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5 years of experience.

Work Environment:
  • Working in office environment.
  • Some responsibilities occur in a warehouse and/or production setting.
