New York Institute of Technology Office of Financial Affairs, seeks a Staff Accountant, located at the Old Westbury campus.
Responsibilities:
Reports to the Senior Accountant in the Controller's Office
Prepare daily bank deposits and prepare journal entries to record daily bank transactions (USD and CAD banking institutions).
Assist in preparation of daily cash report.
Extract daily miscellaneous receipt activity from software in use by various departments (i.e. Development, Food Services, Catering Services, Health Clinics, etc.).
Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries to record bank interest, credit card fees, collection agency activity, food service activity, gifts and miscellaneous cash receipts.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations. Identify, research, and correct reconciling items, as needed.
Analyze selected general ledger accounts (income statement and balance sheet) and prepares reconciliations and analyses on monthly and annual basis. Prepares adjusting journal entries as needed. Prepare detailed year over year variance explanations.
Gather capital project invoices for review and determination of proper accounting treatment. Assist in the preparation of bonded capital cost analysis.
Maintain spreadsheets and prepares work papers for monthly close and year-end financial audit.
Prepare special reports for Federal, New York State, New York City, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and other local authorities for various purposes, including but not limited to sales tax filings.
Prepare monthly and annual reconciliation of New York State student financial aid (PeopleSoft to NYS HESC (TAP) website).
Maintain department calendar for annual renewals, mandatory filings, and payments.
Obtain proficiency in the use of the Oracle accounting software and support the department in the transition to the Workday accounting software.
Additional responsibilities, as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required; Accounting major is preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required
Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially excel
Independent starter with customer service and time management skills and an attention to detail
