The GL Accountant position is responsible for general ledger accounting activities relative to the Company's monthly oil and gas revenue, lease operating, and capital cost accruals. Assist the operations group with analysis of actual spend compared to budget.
Duties and job responsibilities:
Prepare and/or assist with monthly oil and gas revenue accrual
Prepare and/or assist with monthly lease operating accruals
Prepare and/or assist with monthly capital expenditure accruals
Coordinate with operations group on spend levels and necessary accruals
Prepare monthly account reconciliations for accrual accounts during the monthly close process
Prepare monthly account reconciliations for payroll liability accounts
Prepare reconciliations of spend against budgeted amounts
Prepare monthly journal entries to properly record the accruals by asset area
Ensure supporting documentation is adequately retained for journal entries recorded, including properly linked to journal entry in Enertia accounting system.
Respond to audit requests for supporting documentation
Prepare internal control documentation associated with the aforementioned job responsibilities and support accounting department internal control testing
Identify process inefficiencies and suggest potential solutions
Special projects as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from accredited college or university required
Minimum of 5 years in a similar role with an oil and gas exploration and production company
Public accounting experience a plus
Prior experience working with lease operating schedules
Experience with Enertia software strongly preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level (use financial and logical functions; work with multiple worksheets and workbooks; import and export information; creating and manipulate pivot tables, etc.
Proactive and diligent with the ability to take ownership of assigned projects
