Overview:
The Staff Accountant operates under the guidance of the Accounting Manager and must be a team player with good communication, analytical and computer skills. These skills are required to effectively perform analyses and accounting work to support the accurate production of financial information as well as meeting audit requirements.
Responsibilities:
Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Financial Close Support: Timely and accurate processing in accord with the monthly financial close calendar including:
Preparation and maintenance of accounting schedules to support general ledger to ensure accurate accounting. Ensures each account is posted correctly and necessary adjustments are properly made. Performs account analysis to confirm accounts are accurately recorded.
Assists in preparation and analyze budgets; and perform general bookkeeping. Reviews discrepancies that arise in comparing actual results to budget.
Prepares monthly billing for designated programs. Follows up to ensure full collection and investigates discrepancies among billing, cash receipts, billing adjustments and open accounts receivable balances.
Prepares journal entries and monthly reconciliations supporting program billing and accounts receivable.
Assists Controller and Accounting Manager as needed in the areas of monthly financial statement closings, periodic billing and financial analysis.
Treasury:
Monitor banking activity and provide daily data to other accountants to ensure timely processing of cash receipts, ACH credits and ACH debits
Audits:
Support the annual audit process by timely satisfying auditors sample requests and other "Prepared by Client" (PBC) items assigned by the Accounting Manager/ Controller.
Other responsibilities:
Serve as back-up for other accountants' positions as needed and determined by the Accounting Manager / Controller.
All other appropriate duties including special projects as required.
Qualifications:
Education and/ or experience required:
Associate's degree in accounting or finance and Two years' relevant experience.
Considered a Plus (Preferred):Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Non-Profit accounting related experience
Skills, Licenses and/ or competencies required:
Good knowledge of accounting, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word required.
Proficiency in use of Blackbaud Financial Edge or Sage Intacct a plus.
Good interpersonal skills exhibited by the ability to communicate with staff, management, and other departments in a professional manner
Good skills in paying attention to detail, analyses, developing and recommending solutions and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks on a timely basis with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
Work requires a strong work ethic and exhibiting a sense of urgency in completion of tasks, willingness to work a flexible schedule and a commitment to the mission of the agency.
Physical aspects include but are not limited to sitting/standing for extended periods, reaching
and occasional light lifting and carrying.
