We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accountant- Technical Revenue to join our dynamic team in Carlsbad, CA! This hybrid role offers the unique blend of working collaboratively within our Carlsbad office and the flexibility of remote work.
At Viasat, the Technical Revenue Accounting team serves more in a consultant-type capacity than an accounting processing role. On this team, the primary responsibility of the Senior Accountant is to serve as a Revenue Recognition expert for Viasat. As an expert, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the primary review of significant customer contracts and the determination of the proper revenue recognition model in accordance with ASC 606.
Through this process, you will interact with different functional areas of the company including business area finance/program managers, contracts, legal, and corporate accounting (including but not limited to accounts receivable, inventory, capital, SEC reporting and treasury). The role will entail variety, complexity, and the opportunity to diversify your own personal development as the role requires not just a detailed review/interpretation of contracts but also requires you to obtain a detailed understanding of our end-to-end process of how products and services are provided to our customers.
The day-to-day:
As you develop in this role you will become a point of contact for the various business areas throughout the company, including Viasat's international entities. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Primary reviewer of significant customer contracts and memorandum documentation in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Contractual specific questions impacting the timing and extent of revenue recognition.
Various financial reporting close tasks during each quarter including the review of revenue recognition cut-off and performing reconciliations and detailed tie-outs for both testing and disclosure purposes.
What you'll need:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant experience with exceptional academic records.
2-5 years' of accounting experience.
Experience with revenue recognition analysis under ASC 606.
Detail oriented. Nuances in contract language can impact technical accounting conclusions.
A self-motivated desire to learn and constantly improve. Takes responsibility for own development.
Ability to work independently while able to identify the appropriate times to involve their supervisors.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to build relationships with others within and outside. the accounting team. This includes the ability to understand different perspectives, goals and limitations of various parties impacted by a technical accounting decisions.
Strong organizational and project management skills. Takes ownership of not just their assigned tasks, but also the success of the team as a whole. Able to prioritize competing demands and continuously meet deadlines.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, especially in data organization and pivot tables.
Experience in performing technical research and writing accounting position papers. Takes pride in defending their position but open to different viewpoints/interpretations.

Prior experience with a Big 4 firm.
Licensed CPA (or CPA licensure in process) is a plus.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Salary range:
