Chair Professor/Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Accountancy [Ref. R/050/24]

The College of Business has a total of about 160 faculty members within its six academic departments. All six departments are well known in the business community for their professional standing and academic reputation.

The Department of Accountancy has over 34 full-time academic staff members.  It provides state-of-the-art accountancy education with a professional emphasis.  Research is strongly and actively encouraged and the Department has been successful in obtaining numerous competitive research grants both within and outside the University.  Over the last three years, faculty members have been very successful in having their papers published in or accepted for top-tier journals in the areas of accounting, finance, and other areas of business disciplines, including Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of International Business Studies, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal and Organizational Science.  

The Department is offering a very active PhD Programme in Accounting, and has been very successful in placing PhD graduates at leading universities in Hong Kong, mainland China, and overseas, including University of Alberta, HEC-Paris, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, University of Science and Technology of China. Further, the PhD graduates have been successful in publishing their papers in top-tier journals such as The Accounting Review and Journal of Accounting and Economics.  The Department, in collaboration of the Department of Economics and Finance and University Library, maintains a wide range of research databases, mostly via WRDS.

Duties:  The posts are tenable from January 2025/September 2025.  Most undergraduate classes are conducted in the day time, with evening teaching for the taught postgraduate programmes.  There will also be some additional undergraduate or postgraduate supervision of projects and theses.

Requirements
Candidates for Chair Professor should possess strong academic qualifications, substantial relevant experience in tertiary education, and an internationally recognized record of research and scholarship.  They are expected to provide strong academic leadership in the development of teaching and research within the Department, as well as providing effective managerial leadership.

Candidates for Professor and Associate Professor should possess a PhD with relevant teaching experience, a solid publication record in quality international journals and a dedication to quality teaching.  They are expected to provide contribution/leadership in research, plan curriculum of studies and supervise postgraduate students.  Candidates for Assistant Professor should possess a PhD or near its completion.

Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
