Job Description: Cost Accountant
Position Reports to: Vice President/Senior Management
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Cost Accountant will: complete gross margin analyses related to the company's products; keep track of inventory quantities and values; help to calculate costs of goods sold on the company's financial reports; keep track of factory costs and variances from expectations; review and update manufacturing rates and costs for use in valuation of inventory and calculation of selling prices for products.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect and analyze data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, labor costs, benefits costs, and factory overhead.
Maintain data pertaining to full import supply chain for finished goods and other imported materials, including container costs, fees, handling charges, etc.
Analyze changes in product design, materials, manufacturing methods, and/or services provided to determine effects on costs - update item costs as needed
Collect direct labor and product development labor information and prepare reports for distribution to relevant management personnel
Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
Assist in month-end and year-end close of the General Ledger
Conduct physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
Reconcile all inventories of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods
Other assignments and responsibilities as directed by management.
Position Qualifications:
The Cost Accountant must be able to use MRP software as well as software containing spreadsheets with complicated formulas.
This person must also be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the company as well as with certain outside parties such as auditors and suppliers.
The position will be responsible for preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed as well as work with multiple deadlines and functional areas.
Strong Excel skills as well as the ability to work with Access, Outlook, and Word are required.
Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting a plus.
Minimum of 2 solid years of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
Cost systems background with understanding of a standard cost environment
Excellent analytical skills
Experience with Global Shop Solutions is a plus.
Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards
Excel proficient
